Police find Wheaton woman’s body buried in Glen Ellyn park

Glen Ellyn Police found the body of a 33-year-old woman who had been reported missing from Wheaton during the search of a park on Saturday. Police said Linda Velez of Wheaton had suffered “obvious signs of trauma,” but that there is no reason to believe there is any threat to the public. Full story.

Runners get first chance to try out new O’Hare runway

O’Hare International Airport’s new runway proved true to its name yesterday morning as more than 3,000 runners took to the pavement for the “Run on the Runway” 5K and 10K runs to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The new runway will open for air traffic Oct. 17, but on Sunday it was clear for foot traffic, as the runners enjoyed not only flawless weather, but also the chance to gaze at and pose for pictures with aircraft belonging to United Airlines, which sponsored the run with the Chicago Department of Aviation. Four minutes of bad too much for Bears to overcome

It took less than four minutes. In that short time span in the second quarter, the Bears went from an undefeated team with a lead to a team looking for cover after the roof caved in under the weight of 3 rapid-fire Lions touchdowns. To their credit, the Bears regrouped after halftime and rallied, but it wasn’t enough in a 40-32 loss that left the two teams tied for the NFC North lead at 3-1. Full story.

Cubs’ Sveum could find out his fate Monday

The Cubs finished another dismal season Sunday, losing 4-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. With the loss, the Cubs wound up 66-96. That marks a slight improvement from the 61-101 record the Cubs put up last season in the first year of team President Theo Epstein, general manager Jed Hoyer and field manager Dale Sveum. Epstein and Hoyer are safe in their jobs as they continue on their massive rebuilding of the entire Cubs organization. The same can’t be said for Sveum, but his fate could be determined today. White Sox’ Konerko talks about his uncertain future

If Paul Konerko does come back next year to play one more season with the White Sox, he already has an idea how his final game at U.S. Cellular Field is going to wrap up. “I might do the lap around the field because then I know and it’ll be for real,” Konerko said Sunday after the Sox concluded their hideous 2013 campaign with a 4-1 loss to the Royals.
