Maine Twp. man charged with promoting prostitution

A 25-year-old Maine Township man has been charged with promoting prostitution, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said in a news release.

Nabil Anas, of the 9100 block of Stevenson near Mount Prospect, appeared at a bond hearing Friday at the Cook County courthouse in Skokie. A judge set bail at $5,000, but police said he’s being held without bond due to a warrant from Jefferson Parish, La., for narcotics delivery.

Cook County Sheriff’s police began an investigation Sept. 23 after receiving information that Anas had provided an 18-year-old Palos Park woman with cocaine and prostituted her several times during the last several weeks in Schiller Park, Skokie and Glenview, the news release stated.

Police said Anas used the money to buy drugs and pay for motel rooms where the victim would practice prostitution and give Anas the money she was paid.

Anas and the victim initially communicated online and met in person for the first time Aug. 8, police said. Investigators said the prostitution began days after they met.

He was taken into custody Sept. 24 and charged with one felony count of promoting prostitution.

Anas is due back in court Oct. 4.
