Fremd forces 3-way MSL West tie

Fremd’s girls volleyball team handed Barrington its first conference loss and created a three-way tie for first place in the Mid-Suburban West.

The visiting Vikings defeated the Fillies 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, leaving both those teams and Schaumburg at 3-1.

Fremd used a balanced attack of Amy Andersen (6 kills), Maise Koo (6), Lane Hindenburg (5) and Hope Schroeder (5) to improve to 10-7.

Koo and Erica Simios each 3 kills while setters Jackie Mursuli and Carly Roberts each collected 12 assists.

Christy Roney had a match-high 18 kills for Barrington (4-9, 3-1) followed by Claire Waliczek (5) and Emily Watkins (4). Waliczek had 26 assists and Emily Casaletto collected 26 digs.

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: The Mustangs (9-8, 3-1) received 5 aces and 5 kills from senior Lauren Sokolowski in their 25-11 25-17 MSL East homecourt victory.

Senior Jenny Vliet (13-of-14) put down a match-high 9 kills with her 8 assists while Mia Harper added 3 kills.

Ashley Montanez had a pair of kills and blocks and Grace Skorin led the winner’s defense with 8 digs. Sami Kay handed out 10 assists

Schaumburg d. Palatine: Kiana Lewis (13 kills), Abbie Rahn (6) and Oyinkan Akinola (3) led visiting Schaumburg (11-6, 3-1) in a 25-13, 25-19 victory in the MSL West. Lewis and Hannah Moore each had 7 digs while Jada Blackwell and Megan Hayes collected 9 assists apiece.

Kim Butler (5 kills) and Hannah Bridier (4) led the Pirates (1-10, 0-4) while Liz Keelty served 3 aces.

Caitlyn Riedy collected 8 assists while Alexis Serna led the back row with 7 digs.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Jenn Donnell (7 kills) and Alyssa Wachal (4) led host Conant (7-11, 2-2) to a 21-25, 25-7, 25-15 victory in the MSL West.

DeeDee Durr, Sarah Manczko and Daniele Sortino each added 3 kills while Elisa Ambrose (11 assists) and Sarah Mazurek (10) ran the Cougars’ offense. Kari Thomsen recorded 16 digs.

Clare Shaffer led the Hawks (3-13, 1-4) with 7 kills. Andrea Wolinski and Sarah Wille (17 digs) each added 4 kills. Jenny Avila served 3 aces and handed out 4 assists. Teammate Kaitlyn Imburgia had 7 assists.

Elk Grove d. Prospect: Melissa Solorio (5 kills), Amber Lindfors (4) and Taylor Brown (3) led host Elk Grove to a 25-18, 25-19 triumph and kept the Grens (11-10, 3-1) tied for first in the MSL East with Hersey and Rolling Meadows.

Grens setter Kerry Souder handed out 10 assists while Solorio served 3 aces at the Knights (4-8, 1-3).

St. Viator d. Fenwick: Host St, Viator (12-8, 1-1) won the ESCC match 14-25, 25-18, 25-18 victory.

The Lions were led on attack by Mary Cleary (16 kills) and Megan Mueller (10), Molly Ziegler (5) and Grace Fedus (4).

Fedus also had 5 blocks while Ziegler handed out 28 assists from her 57 sets. The back row was paced by Ellie Meyer (16 digs).
