DuPage Community Foundation Welcomes New Committee Members

Phillip L. Barnett, Terri S. Bon, and Freida Varlas have joined the Foundation's Investment Committee, and Andrew Johnson has joined its Grant Committee. The four committee appointments were approved at the Foundation's Annual Meeting on September 12.

Phillip L. Barnett

Barnett is a retired executive of Front Barnett Associates LLC, an investment counseling firm responsible for the management of high net worth individuals, corporate retirement plans, foundations and jointly-trusteed funds. He was previously employed in the financial management industry with Mesirow Financial Corp., MH/Edie Investment Counsel, and Merrill Lynch.

Barnett is a former president of the Naperville Country Club. He and his wife live in Naperville.

Terri S. Bon

Bon is the interim chief financial officer for Delta Dental of Illinois. She has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services arena. Bon received her MBA from Benedictine University and her B.S. in accounting from the University of Illinois. She and her husband are residents of Aurora.

Freida Varlas

Freida Varlas

Varlas is a former tax partner for Ernst & Young, LLP. She has more than 20 years of experience in financial planning services. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. degree in accounting, Varlas is a Certified Public Accountant. She resides in Glen Ellyn, with her husband and their son.

"I look forward to serving on the Investment Committee and offering an objective perspective on the management of the Foundation's financial assets, " said Varlas.

"I am delighted to be of service to the DuPage Community Foundation," said Johnson. "I am looking forward to working with the Grant Committee to help organizations in DuPage make our community a better place to live."

Johnson is an executive vice president/principal with Captive Resources, LLC, where he is responsible for the management of safety/risk control efforts for more than 1,200 companies across the country. He is also a member of the Warrenville Park District Board of Commissioners and the Warrenville Planning Commission.

"Having been involved in community service all my adult life, this is an exciting new opportunity," said Johnson.

Johnson holds a B.S. in occupational safety & health from Northern Illinois University. He is a Certified Safety Professional and a resident of Schaumburg.
