Barrington tops Lake Forest in two

Led by sophomore Megan Talbot’s 8 kills and 3 from classmate Katie Clement, Barrington’s girls volleyball team defeated Lake Forest 25-23, 26-24 in a nonconference match on Monday.

Senior setter Claire Waliczek (2 aces) handed out 12 assists fort he Fillies (3-8), who also received 2 blocks from senior Christy Roney.

Glenbard West d. Palatine: Glenbard West (19-2) won its eighth straight 25-13, 25-16 in the nonconference match.

The Hilltoppers and Pirates played close in the early parts of game one, with Palatine holding a 9-7 lead after a block by Kim Butler (3 kills).

Hannah Bridier (3 kills, 5 digs) gave Palatine its last lead with a kill that put her team up 10-9.

From there, Glenbard West went on a 15-3 run.

Palatine (1-8) was hurt by three service errors in Game 2.

“Sometimes we’re our own worst enemy,” said Palatine coach Dan Gavin said.

“We play good volleyball in spurts and then we take a couple points off for whatever reason. When you play a good team like Glenbard West, they’re going to make you pay for those mistakes.”

Butler, Bridier and Meg Angelaccio each finished with 3 kills apiece for the Pirates, while Angelaccio led with 7 digs.
