Man gets probation for Arlington Heights fight

A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to injuring another man during a fight last April in Arlington Heights.

In exchange for Donavan J. Williams’ guilty plea to aggravated battery causing bodily harm, Cook County Judge Ellen Mandletort sentenced him to two years’ probation in addition to the 153 days he has served in Cook County jail since his arrest. She also ordered that Williams have no contact with the victim or his wife.

Williams, who was living in Indianapolis at the time but now lives in Arlington Heights, got into a dispute with another manon the 1900 block of North Arlington Heights Road that gradually became more heated, said Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Gerber. It concluded with Williams picking up the man and throwing him to the asphalt, causing the victim to suffer a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma, Gerber said.

Announcing her sentence, Mandletort noted for the record that the altercation followed an earlier incident that involved a confrontation between the victim and Williams’ girlfriend.

The victim, who attended the sentencing, agreed with the disposition, Gerber said.
