Roskam’s position on Syria is informed

Wow! It’s a time when I’m not sure what the right political decisions are — or should be. I appreciate that our politicians are making hard, crucial decisions. What I don’t appreciate is the confusion surrounding these decisions — especially when those decisions affect me and you. Syria, for example. I have to admit, I’ve been somewhat confused by all that we’ve been hearing.

My confusion centers around President Obama’s mission in Syria. Intervention? Really? What is the ultimate goal? Putting American lives in danger without a clear, well-defined plan is just plain confusing — and scary.

I believe Congressman Roskam does make himself clear. I believe he made the right decision to oppose military intervention in Syria. He went to great lengths to hear from both foreign policy experts and people here in his district (including those with family members serving overseas and retired military personnel) to come to his decision.

I want my political leaders to forgo knee-jerk decision making and go that extra mile. Take time to understand the ramifications, take a deep breath and make informed, clear decisions.

This is one of the many reasons I continue to support Congressman Roskam. He recognizes that he works for the people and he has been entrusted with that great responsibility, and that he needs to continue to earn the right to represent us.
