GOP has its priorities misplaced

According to a Sept. 18 Daily Herald article on Page 13, House Republicans say “food stamps serve too many Americans” — 47.8 million Americans are using food stamps and they propose slashing the SNAP program by almost $4 billion. According to an article on Page 13 of that same Daily Herald, 46.5 million Americans are living in poverty. Considering that many of the new jobs created the last few years pay very low wages, the number of Americans currently using food stamps seems pretty reasonable.

I guess House Republicans would rather subsidize large corporations like the oil companies who are making record profits, companies that outsource their factories and rich people than subsidize Americans living in poverty, many of whom are children, elderly, and people working at minimum wage jobs.

To me, it seems that their priorities are misplaced. A country where only a few prosper cannot prosper.
