Third Lake bank robbed

Lake County sheriff’s police are searching for an agile thief who robbed a Third Lake bank.

The stickup occurred about 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Associated Bank, 34354 N. Route 45.

The suspect, who was wearing a helmet that covered his face, jumped onto a teller’s counter and demanded money be placed into a black drawstring backpack, police said.

After employees complied, the robber forced them into a bathroom, police said.

The thief then fled in an unknown direction. Less than $4,000 was stolen, police Sgt. Sara Balmes said.

The robber did not appear to be armed, police said.

He was described as being white and slim, and he stood between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall.

In addition to the helmet, he wore: a gray, hooded sweatshirt; blue pants; dark, camouflage boots; a black Puma backpack; latex gloves; and sunglasses.
