Two arrested in Beach Park chainsaw burglary

Two men were arrested by Lake County sheriff’s deputies after they tried to steal a chain saw in Beach Park, officials said.

Marcus Hampton, 43, of the 6000 block of Campbell Street in Chicago, and Darrin Mack, 46, of the 3000 block of Emmaus Avenue in Zion, were arrested Sept. 6 and charged with burglary, attempted burglary, and theft over $300, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 39000 block of Holdridge Avenue after the two were seen trying to break into a garage, authorities said.

Responding deputies found Hampton on the street, then located Mack in the bushes holding the chain saw, authorities said.

Hampton is held in Lake County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, while Mack remains held on $100,000 bail.
