A boating accident waiting to happen
A boating accident waiting to happen
I am in complete and total agreement with Dennis Garber’s letter about bullies on the river in the Daily Herald’s Sept. 10 “Your Views.”
As a resident living on the Fox River, I see the large boats and Jet Skis flying on the water at high speeds.
It’s the same boaters just about every day. They operate their craft without any regard to other boaters or people using canoes. The waves and wakes they cause just stir up the shallow water and erode the shores.
Recently a water obstruction was on the river and was removed only by the intervention of a city of Elgin officials. Other agencies did nothing. In a conversation that I had with another agency, it appears this area of the Fox River from Carpentersville to Elgin is a no-man’s land. There is no enforcement of any boating laws and from what I’ve seen, there will not be any enforcement.
I guess that the only time that there will be any enforcement or management of the Fox River will be when someone gets badly injured or killed.
