Cook County, Hanover Park join fro giant recycling event

The Cook County Department of Environmental Control in partnership with Hanover Park will host a recycling event 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Hanover Park Metra Station, 1975 W. Lake St. The event is open to residents and nonresidents of the village.

Among the items accepted are cellphone and ink jet cartridges; eye glasses, hearing aids and keys; CFL bulbs, household batteries and large acid batteries; motor oil and antifreeze; holiday lights and extension cords; and fire extinguishers and scrap metal. Also, bicycles and wheelchairs in working condition; clean, usable child and adult clothing; and assistive devices such as walkers, crutches and canes.

Up to three boxes of personal documents for shredding will be accepted, as will prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalers, and mercury thermometers.

Items that won’t be accepted include documents from businesses, hard cover books, binders, binder clips, controlled substances, illegal narcotics, infectious medical waste, needles and syringes. Also, large appliances, paint, oil filters, propane tanks, hazardous waste, explosives or business waste of any kind.
