Discussion about local food issues:

The Lake County Regional Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. A review of proposed text amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance relating to local food production, process streamlining, and other miscellaneous revisions will be discussed. Staff is recommending amendments relating to local food-oriented activities, including beekeeping and chicken cultivating, and streamlining review processes. The local food amendments will remove barriers to growing and cultivating food on residential properties. The RPC can forward comments and recommendations on the proposed amendments to the Planning, Building and Zoning Committee and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
