It’s not easy to get into the Marine Corps these days, candidates are screened and prequalified for physical and mental fitness before ever stepping into the famous yellow footprints.

Not only did Grant Dunham get in, he graduated boot camp with honors finishing No. 2 in a class of 524 Marine recruits.

After graduating from Palatine’s Fremd High School this year, Dunham shipped out the next day to spend 13 weeks of boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. PFC Dunham successfully completed the 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD San Diego, in Training Platoon 1073, Delta Company.

Marine Corps boot camp is legendary for its rigorous training but Dunham was able to finish No. 2 overall making him the “Series Honorman” of Delta Company 1st Recruit Training Battalion.
