Two children found dead in hotel room

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Two children have been found dead in an Orange County hotel room after police say an apparently suicidal woman made remarks that led authorities to them.

Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna says officers found the children dead at around 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton Inn & Suites.

Their identities haven’t been released. There’s no word on what killed the children but the deaths are being investigated as homicide.

About an hour earlier, police in nearby Costa Mesa were called to a supermarket parking lot. They say a woman apparently tried to kill herself by crashing her car into poles surrounding an electrical box.

Costa Mesa Sgt. Tim Starn says remarks by the injured woman led to the children’s discovery.

Authorities haven’t disclosed her relationship to the children.
