Elgin should drop lawsuit against TLC

I have lived in Elgin for about 18 years. All of that time I have been proud to live here. But recent events have given me second thoughts about our city. I am referring to the city’s efforts to curtail the activities of the TLC.

TLC provides young women an alternative to the abortion clinics of Planned Parenthood. It would seem to me that the city would welcome the services provided by TLC. TLC receives no funds from the government, as opposed to the millions of dollars given to Planned Parenthood. (As a taxpayer, my objection to that is another whole story.)

The use of the van is vital to TLC being available to young women in need. I strongly object to the city pursing an appeal of the recent court judgment that ruled in favor of TLC. I would suspect that if Planned Parenthood were operating a van for their purposes, the city would not be pursuing its present course of action.

If private parties want to allow the TLC van to be parked on private property, I don’t believe the city has any business intervening. What the city is doing is a violation of the U.S. Constitution (curtails the right of choice) and of good moral values. It is time to drop this ridiculous pursuit of TLC using taxpayer dollars and turn the council’s attention to more pressing matters.
