Aldi opens Addison store

Aldi celebrated the opening of its new Addison store on Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, product sampling and barbecue.

The debut of the store at 1038 N. Rohlwing Road means that the discount grocer now has more than 1,200 locations in 32 states.

“We are pleased to bring this new store to Addison to help customers get high-quality products at everyday low prices,” said Scott Patton, Batavia division vice president for Aldi.

Company officials said in a written statement that shoppers can expect to find more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased items sold under Aldi exclusive brands.

Aldi eliminates overhead costs by offering smart practices, such as a cart rental system through which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart’s return, officials said. Other cost-saving practices include a smaller store footprint, open carton displays and encouragement of customers to bring their own shopping bags.

The Addison store features high ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials. It will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

This Sunday, Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean “The Milkman” Johnson will be available for autographs and photographs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Addison store.
