Roney, Barrington win West opener

Led by Christy Roney’s 13 kills, Barrington’s girls volleyball team topped visiting Hoffman Estates 25-22, 25-20 on Tuesday night in a Mid-Suburban West opener.

Megan Talbot added 7 kills and 2 blocks for the Fillies (2-2, 1-0) while setter Claire Waliczek handed out 15 assists.

Leading the defense were Emily Casaletto (9 digs) and Emily Watkins (7).

Sarah Wille (5 kills, 10 digs) and Clare Shaffer (4) led the Hoffman attack which was set by Renee Clemment (10 assists) and Jenny Avila (5).

Kaileen Hendle added 6 digs for the Hawks (2-7, 0-1) while Kaitlyn Imburgia had 4 blocks.

Hersey d. Wheeling: Liz Fuerst (8 kills, 2 blocks), Gabri Olhava (5 kills, 3 blocks), Kelly Hill (4) and Katie Rozanski (4) led the Hersey attack in a 25-7, 25-15 win. Courtney Stedman had 20 assists while Katie Krebs added 9 digs against the host Wildcats (1-8, 0-1).

Megan Solans was 16-of-18 serving with 4 aces for the Huskies (3-6, 1-0).

“We came out on fire,” said Hersey coach Nancy Lill. “Megan Solans got us going with her jump serve, and we built a solid lead in Game 1.”

Schaumburg d Fremd: Kiana Lewis (14 kills), Oyinkan Akinola (8) and Hannah Moore (6) led the attack for Schaumburg (6-2, 1-0) in a 25-25, 25-14, 25-22 victory.

Jada Blackwell handed out 26 assists and also recorded 14 digs while Sarah Stuehm led the Saxons’ back row with 28 digs.

Akinola and teammate Melanie Meyer also had 4 blocks apiece against the host Vikings (4-4, 0-1).

Maise Koo (7 kills), Hope Schroeder (7) and Lane Hindenburg (5) led the Fremd attack while teammates Aubrey Stegich (12 digs) and Sarah Roberts (9) paced the defense.

Buffalo Grove d. Prospect: Buffalo Grove (4-5, 1-0) opened MSL East play with a 25-12, 25-19 victory, led by Alaina Murphy’s 9 kills and 5 from Sarah Rivera. Bison setter Marie Georgoulis served 5 aces and collected 7 assists against the host Knights (0-3, 0-1).

Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Rolling Meadows (6-3, 1-0) was led on attack by Ashley Montanez (10 kills), Jenny Vliet (6 kills) and Lauren Sokolowski (4).

Sami Kay (14 assists) was 11-of-11 serving with 4 aces while Vliet had 10 assists. Sokolowski also had 6 digs while teammates Grace Skorin and Mia Harper had 4 apiece.

Amber Lindfors had 6 blocks and 4 kills to lead the host Grens (3-5, 0-1) while Melissa Solorio added 2 kills. McKenzie Jordan put down a pair of kills. Taylor Brown served 3 aces and Kelsey Conley collected 7 digs.

Christian Lberty d. Mooseheart: Sophomore Cassie Swiderek (5 kills, 3 aces), senior Megan Sullivan (4 kills, 3 aces) and senior Shelbi Hernandez led the attack for Christian Liberty in a 25-6, 25-18 victory in Arlington Heights.
