Wisconsin fall turkey hunt to start Saturday

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin’s fall turkey hunt is set to begin later this week.

The season is scheduled to start Saturday and run through Nov. 21 statewide. The extended fall season is scheduled to run from Dec. 2 through Dec. 31 in the southern two-thirds of the state.

State Department of Natural Resources officials say this past year’s late winter and cold, wet spring likely put a damper on turkey production, noting reports of quail-sized turkey poults even into August.

However, they say 2012 was a good production year, which should translate to more adult gobblers for hunters.
