Girls volleyball/Fox Valley roundup

At West Aurora: South Elgin took second place in the Gold Division at the West Aurora tournament, going 4-1 for the weekend. The Storm (4-4) defeated Romeoville, West Aurora and Bartlett before losing a 3-set match to Glenbard South. They then came back and beat Wheaton Academy in 3 sets. Leading South Elgin in the tournament were Ashley Oandasan (24 kills, 21 digs), Adrianna Loiacono (58 assists), Bri Reum (15 kills, 9 aces) and Kate Innis (33 digs).

Streamwood finished fourth in the tournament, beating Sycamore and Plainfield East and losing to West Aurora and Wheaton Academy. Hannah McGlone led the Sabres (6-5) with 40 kills, 22 digs and 20 blocks. Mercedes Olmos added 27 assists and Lexi Engram had 17 kills for Streamwood.

“McGlone had one of her best all-around tournaments for us,” said Streamwood coach Lisa Vazzanna. “She was all over the place for us.”

At Timothy Christian: St. Edward went 4-1 for the weekend at the Timothy Christian tournament to take third place. The Green Wave (9-4) beat Aurora Christian, Westmont twice and U-High and lost to Timothy Christian. Leading St. Edward in the tournament were Mallory Gross (48 assists, 31 digs), Casey Gredzieleski (38 assists), Allison Kruk (112 digs, 3 aces), Clara McDowell (26 digs, 4 aces), Alyssa Saunders (34 digs), Katie Swanson (43 digs, 31 kills, 4 aces), Megan Barth (11 kills, 6 aces), Cece Rapp (11 kills), Cory Kelly (12 kills) and Shannon Igielski (34 kills).

Harvest Christian went 3-2 at the tournament, beating Round Lake twice and U-High and losing to IC Catholic Prep and Timothy Christian to finish in fifth place. Ellie Burzlaff (21 kills), Chloe Corbett (23 kills, 12 aces, 21 digs), Sydney Doby (26 kills, 10 aces, 25 digs) and Shayna Manusos (41 digs, 8 aces) led the Lions.
