Man sought for trying to lure high school runner in Antioch

Antioch police have issued a community alert following a report Friday of a man who tried to lure a female member of the Antioch Community High School cross country team.

Police said the team was completing a practice run about 3:45 p.m. in the area of McMillan Road and Gail Street when a man got out of a parked vehicle and called out to a female team member as she ran by to stop and come to his location.

The team member ran to her coach and reported the incident. Another female student subsequently told police of a similar occurrence two weeks ago involving a man matching the same description. That was not reported at the time, police said.

The man is described as white, in his 60s with short gray/white hair. A more detailed physical description was not available. However, the vehicle Friday was described as a full size white van with no windows and the vehicle in the first report was described as a blue, boxy-style 4-door vehicle.

Police said they have increased patrols and are working with officials in all the area’s school districts to notify students and parents of the reports. Surrounding police departments also have been notified.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity should call Antioch police at (847) 395-8585.
