Modesty in dress, actions honors women

I am shocked and saddened by the vulgar and lewd actions recently displayed by Miley Cyrus, which is now known to many in this country. What is further depressing is that many people, including her manager and her own mother, have defended her actions as being reasonable and proper.

The reality is that she and her supporters have openly dishonored women around the world. There is wisdom in covering things — it is done to honor that which is covered. For example, in many Eastern countries, food is covered in front of guests to do it honor. Pearls and diamonds are found in the depths of the ocean and the earth, and thus they are naturally covered. In Islam, women cover their heads and other areas to teach them that their beauty is precious and honorable like the pearls and diamonds.

It is my hope that the young women in our country avoid those people who want to spread indecency and immorality and instead learn from this wise point which teaches the honorable ways of modesty and chastity. This path will certainly lead to inner peace and harmony and true success in society.
