Spill temporarily disrupts morning commute in Bloomingdale

Bloomingdale police say traffic was disrupted for several hours Friday morning when a nontoxic substance believed to be glycerin spilled onto Army Trail Road.

The spill happened sometime around 8:30 a.m. when the substance started leaking from a transport truck. After discovering the leak, the driver stopped in a parking lot near the intersection of Army Trail and Springfield Drive.

While the substance wasn’t toxic, there were concerns it could cause the roadway to become slippery, so Bloomingdale police and firefighters worked with crews from the county’s highway department to remove the substance from the road. The cleanup took more than three hours, officials said.
