Spirit to end Myrtle Beach-Chicago flight in November

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Airlines are reducing flights to Myrtle Beach as fall approaches.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that Allegiant Air already has ended service between Myrtle Beach and Fort Wayne, Ind. Service to Allentown, Pa., Huntingdon, W.Va., and Youngstown, Ohio, continues until Sept. 18.

Allegiant plans to resume service in April.

Spirit Airlines plans to end flights to Charleston, W. Va., Dallas and Plattsburgh, N.Y. on Tuesday. Spirit carries about half the passengers into Myrtle Beach each year.

Spirit will eliminate service to Baltimore-Washington, Chicago, Detroit, Latrobe-Pittsburgh, Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Philadelphia in early November.

Spirit maintains service year-round to Atlantic City, N.J., Boston, LaGuardia in New York and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Most airlines reduce or end flights to Myrtle Beach after the summer season.
