Manufacturing plant to close in Kewanee

KEWANEE, Ill. — The owners of a manufacturing plant in western Illinois say it will close next year and move to another part of the country.

WGIL radio reports Thursday that BOMAG will close its facility in Kewanee by the end of next year. The company makes asphalt rollers and other items in the Henry County city of about 13,000. It received incentives from the state of Illinois three years ago to consolidate its Illinois and Missouri operations in Kewanee.

The company says the plant will move to a “yet to be determined” location in the southern United States.

BOMAG officials wouldn’t say how many people work at the Kewanee plant. The company says the move will help it save money and better serve its customers.
