Boomers get bashed by Greys

The Frontier Greys pounded out 17 hits and scored in seven different innings en route to a 12-3 victory over the host Schaumburg Boomers on Wednesday.

Every member of the starting lineup had a hit for the Greys, who broke open a 1-0 game with 4 runs in the second. Shawn Sanford suffered the loss, starting at home for the first time. Sanford allowed 4 earned runs in 5 innings.

The Boomers left 13 on base. Steve McQuail reached in all 4 of his plate appearances, recording his 24th double of the season. McQuail also drove in 2 runs. Keith Werman had 2 hits, a walk and a stolen base. Sean Mahley pitched a perfect ninth with 2 strikeouts.

The Boomers (54-35) still have a magic number of three to clinch the Frontier League’s West Division title with seven games left. The Boomers host the Greys today at 6:30 p.m., sending right-hander Seth Webster (5-1, 2.18 ERA) against righty Casey Delgado (1-5, 4.01).
