18-year-old charged in Navy veteran's death
Chicago police say first-degree murder charges have been filed against a teenager in the death of a Navy veteran during a robbery.
Telkai Burns was fatally shot in the head as he resisted a man who pulled a gun on him Sunday and demanded his belongings. Police say the 33-year-old Burns, the father of two children, was declared dead an hour after being taken to Stroger Hospital.
Devon Brunt was charged Tuesday in Burn's death. The 18-year-old is scheduled to appear Wednesday for a bond hearing in Cook County Circuit Court.
Family members say Burns saw service in the Iraq War, Kuwait and Japan while in the Navy. They say he was studying youth counseling at Chicago State University.
