Illinois crew battles Oregon wildfire

SPRINGFIELD — Nearly 20 Illinoisans were members of a crew that spent two weeks battling a wildfire in southwestern Oregon.

The crew worked on the Labrador Fire in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources sponsored the crew. It included nine IDNR staffers, four staff from the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, four community firefighters, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee, a Homewood city forester and a Geneseo contractor. They have all returned home.

All crew members have training in wild land firefighting. They are reimbursed by the U.S. Forest Service.
