One-act plays take stage at West Chicago High School

Several one-act plays will be presented in a single evening when WeGo Drama at Community High School opens its 2013-14 season in early September with the return of its Student Directors Showcase.

The show allows students to continue to create their own art, develop their visions and fulfill their mission to “See … Think … Act … Differently,” organizers said.

Participating students say the program is a thrill.

“This is an opportunity unlike any other in high school,” said Noah Watkins, who will direct for the first time and also performs.

Zandra Starks said the directing experience “has stretched my perspective of the art and allows me to appreciate theater a lot more.”

Performances start at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7, at the high school, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago. Tickets are free with a suggested $10 donation.

The shows will include “The Hanging of Josefa,” “The Other Room,” “Small World,” “Grief Struck” and “Queen of the World.”

The company includes Nicolas Sole from Carol Stream; Francisco Andrade, Chris Arbudzinski, Robert Bradley, Ethan Cuka, Elena Garcia, Jennifer Guzman, Jasmine Juarez, Marianne Kiel, Thank Le, Josué Munoz, Zac Page, Raven Ringe, Ben Skipor, Natalie Sehweil, Zandra Starks, Jatie Steininger, Gilary Balenzuela and Noah Watkins from West Chicago; and Sarah Dalla Costa, Lindsay Fiegle, Matthew Loftus, Olivia Powrozek and Sasha Slibinski from Winfield.

The shows are directed by Mark Begovich, Josué Muñoz, Zandra Starks and Noah Watkins. Lights and sound are by Jim Anderson.
