Pihos will run for re-election, take on Breen

State Rep. Sandy Pihos, a Glen Ellyn Republican, will run for re-election, she announced Tuesday, formalizing her intention to take on GOP challenger and Lombard Trustee Peter Breen.

Pihos has been in the Illinois House since 2003 and said she'll talk about her experience in the upcoming primary campaign.

“I feel very passionately about my job,” Pihos said.

Pihos was an early supporter of banning lawmakers giving out scholarships out of ethics concerns and sponsored legislation trying to clarify local government meeting agendas.

Breen, who works for the Chicago-based Thomas More Society, announced his bid a month ago.

Candidates can begin circulating petitions to run for office starting next week, and their candidacies aren't official until those petitions are complete in November.

But so far, Breen's challenge of Pihos is one of the few primary races for suburban Statehouse seats.
