Cops: Van hits runner in Gurnee

Gurnee police say they are investigating a collision between a runner and the driver of a KinderCare-owned passenger van Monday morning.

Emergency dispatchers received a call at 8:38 a.m. reporting the accident off Gages Lake Road and Muirfield Drive. Police said the 18-year-old pedestrian apparently was running and crossed Gages Lake from southbound Muirfield when she was hit by the van.

Police said the 31-year-old driver from Round Lake Park has not been cited, but the investigation continues.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was treated for reported back, head and neck injuries. She is expected to recover.

Only the driver was in the KinderCare van at the time of the accident.
