Chicago man charged with criminal sexual assault
A 25-year-old woman was lured away from a party early Saturday morning by a man she met there and raped behind a garage, Elgin police said.
Stanford E. Thompson, 33, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint, according to Kane County Court records.
Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said police were called at 2:43 a.m. Saturday to the 400 block of Barrett Street on the city’s southeast side after several people called 911 after hearing the woman screaming for help.
Thompson was arrested about a block away and the victim, as well as other witnesses, positively identified him as the attacker.
“They were not known to each other. They were both at the same party. He lured her away and assaulted her behind a garage,” Theriault said. “Other independent witnesses called 911 after they saw what was happening. Essentially, she went outside to get some fresh air and this guy took advantage of that.”
Theriault said the woman was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries, which were not life threatening.
Thompson was not armed during the attack, Theriault said.
Thompson was being held at the Kane County jail on $500,000 bail, meaning he must post $50,000 to be released while his case is pending.
He is next due in court Sept. 11 and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
