Filmmaker gets rare footage of Mongol falconers

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis filmmaker has achieved a yearslong dream by overcoming difficult travel and unsafe conditions to film falconers in Mongolia.

Eddie Brochin’s footage is part of his documentary titled “The Falconer, Sport of Kings.”

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports the film was 3 ½ years in the making. Brochin followed two descendants of Genghis Khan as they hunted with eagles and other birds of prey.

Brochin has been a falconer for 12 years. He is only the second foreigner to hunt with the Mongolian falconers and film their techniques.

His 70-minute documentary was completed in May and has been entered in 11 film festivals this year. Brochin hopes the exposure lands him a distribution deal.
