Lincoln, Hemingway focus of teachers’ conference
SPRINGFIELD — Officials say a two-day conference in Springfield next month will provide teachers with new ideas for bringing history into the classroom.
The Conference on Illinois History will be Sept. 26-27.
The 15th annual meeting will feature discussions about how to use the recent Oscar-nominated film “Lincoln” to teach about Abraham Lincoln and tips for instruction on the Gettysburg Address — the 16th president’s most famous speech — which will mark its 150th anniversary in November.
There will also be sessions on the life and work of novelist and Illinoisan Ernest Hemingway, and exploring antique maps to discuss history and geography.
Tickets are $90 for both days and $50 for one. Students may attend the entire conference for $40.
