Music notes: Happy Together Tour reunites Turtles, Three Dog Night

Rock nostalgia

Members of bands from the 1960s have, well, banded together for a concert tour that will bring rock’s past back to life. The Happy Together Tour includes members of the Turtles, Gary Puckett & Union Gap, Three Dog Night and Paul Revere & the Raiders. This musical trip down memory lane arrives in the suburbs this weekend.

8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora. $59.50. Go to paramountaurora.com.

Veteran rocker

Sammy Hagar’s career in rock ’n’ roll has been long, brash and incredibly successful. After getting his feet wet with the band Montrose in the 1970s, Hagar hit it big the following decade as a solo artist, highlighted by his hit “I Can’t Drive 55.” Then he went through the stratosphere when he replaced David Lee Roth as the frontman for hard-rock group Van Halen, leading that band through four No. 1 album releases. He parted ways with Van Halen acrimoniously (though he made it into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a member), and has resumed a solo career since. He will perform songs from throughout his career this weekend in Chicago.

7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island, 1521 S. Linn White Drive, Chicago. Tickets start at $26. Go to livenation.com.

Hometown show

Plain White T’s formed in the late 1990s in the suburbs of DuPage County, and the platinum-selling group will bring its energetic pop-punk sound back “home” for a special show at Benedictine University in Lisle.

7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University sports complex, located on the university campus, 5700 College Road, Lisle. Tickets start at $15 (for students). Go to ben.edu for more information.
