Elgin man accused of selling heroin near Carpentersville school
A 19-year-old from Elgin was charged with selling heroin near an elementary school in Carpentersville Friday.
Anthony J. Galarza, of the 600 block of Page Avenue, faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a Lakeland Elementary School, 1651 Ravine Lane, and possession of a controlled substance and manufacture/delivery of 1 to 15 grams of heroin, according to Kane County court records.
Galarza was being held on $200,000 bail, meaning he must post $20,000 to be released while the case is pending. His next court date is Aug. 28.
If found guilty, he faces six to 30 years in prison on the most serious charge without possibility of probation.
According to court records, Galarza spent 21 days in jail and received two years of probation after pleading guilty to a felony charge that he harassed a witness in September 2012 case. He also has two DUIs from arrests in Elgin in April 2013 and December 2011, records show.
Carpentersville police could not be reached Monday for additional comment.
