Ind. woman riding in truck dies in police pursuit

MARENGO, Ind. — State Police say a southern Indiana woman who was a passenger in a pickup truck fleeing police died when the truck crashed into a tree during the pursuit.

Fifty-six-year-old Jeannine Marie Farrell of Mauckport was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday night’s crash in the town of Marengo a few miles north of the Ohio River.

Police say the truck’s driver, 44-year-old Robert Michael Banet of Leavenworth, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries following the crash.

Police say a Marengo police officer tried to stop Banet’s pickup for having defective taillights, but Banet refused to stop. He led police on a one-mile pursuit before he lost control of the truck and hit a tree.

Police are weighing possible charges against Banet.
