Man arrested after leaving ID at crime scene

DECATUR — Police didn’t have to work too hard to track down a man they say robbed a central Illinois home after he left his Department of Corrections ID card on the ground.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports 25-year-old Drake A. Ellis was arrested this week. He’s being held in the Macon County Jail on $50,000 bond for variety of charges for the burglary along with aggravated battery.

Police say Ellis broke into the home last month and tried to take a TV, which was left in a yard. Police found his IDOC ID card on the ground just feet away.

He’s served three separate prison terms since 2005 for burglary and theft.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Ellis had an attorney. His telephone rang to a busy signal.
