Former Cook County school official accused of stealing $1.5 million
Prosecutors say they’ve charged a former suburban Chicago school district official with stealing $1.5 million over 20 years.
The Cook County state’s attorney announced the charges Thursday against 54-year-old Robert Healy of LaGrange Highlands. He was treasurer of Lyons Township Trustees for Schools. He’s charged with felony theft of government property and official misconduct. He resigned in September 2012.
Prosecutors say Healy was in charge of managing more than $280 million on behalf of 13 school districts. They accuse him of adding money to his paychecks and issuing himself additional salary and benefits. Officials also say Healy made more than 100 unauthorized wire transfers into personal accounts and used money to buy a luxury vehicle.
