Scammers trying to gain from health law confusion

A consumer protection group says scammers are trying to take advantage of confusion over the national health care law.

Steve Bernas of the Better Business Bureau says identity thieves are calling consumers claiming they're eligible for health insurance cards in exchange for personal information.

Consumers should hang up the telephone if they get such a call. And they should never give out a bank account number, date of birth, credit card number or Social Security number to a caller.

The Better Business Bureau adds that consumers shouldn't rely on caller ID. Some scammers are able to display a company's name or phone number on the caller ID screen of a telephone. That information may be false and part of the scam.
