Kaneland school board applications due Aug. 26

Applications are due Aug. 26 for people interested in filling a vacancy on the Kaneland District 302 school board.

Trustee Joe Oberweis resigned Monday because he is moving out of the district.

The board expects to pick someone no later than Sept. 9, and the person will serve until April 2015.

Applicants should submit a letter and resume to the school board at 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park, 60151.

They must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a resident of Illinois and the Kaneland district for at least one year preceding the appointment, be a registered voter, not be a child sex offender, not hold another incompatible public office, not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the district, and not hold certain types of prohibited state or federal employment.

Residents of Blackberry Township are not eligible, because the district cannot have more than three school board members from any one township in the district.

Applicants are asked to be familiar with the board’s general duties and responsibilities, including its fiduciary responsibilities, as well as policies on conflict of interest, ethics and the gift ban. You can read them at kaneland.org/d302/board.
