Weight limit lowered on Lombard bridge

The Illinois Department of Transportation is mandating the weight limit on Lombard’s Hill Avenue Bridge be reduced to 8 tons.

The change is scheduled to go into effect Thursday when the bridge signs will be replaced.

The previous weight limit ranged from 12 tons to 16 tons, depending on the type of vehicle.

Lombard Village Engineer David Dratnol said the limit is being reduced because of the deteriorating condition of the bridge. He said officials hope to replace the structure within two years.

Dratnol said the change takes effect immediately and will be enforced by Lombard police.

Anyone with questions regarding the bridge can call the public works department at (630) 620-5740.
