Probation violation alleged in Carpentersville stabbing case

A woman who received probation for pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 2011 is in the Kane County jail, accused of failing to appear at a hearing on whether she violated that probation.

Jacqueline S. Loyola, 22, of Carpentersville, was booked into the jail Wednesday after missing a court hearing Aug. 1. According to a motion filed by her attorney, Loyola might have misunderstood the correct time, or been given the wrong time for her hearing, which was set for 9 a.m. The judge issued a warrant for her arrest.

Loyola stabbed Kassandra Caceres of Aurora to death at Loyola’s birthday party in April 2010, after Caceres punched and kicked Loyola’s 16-year-old sister. Police said that Caceres was an uninvited guest, who was allowed to stay at the party although she was in a rival gang.

In December 2011, Loyola pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She was sentenced to four years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and to pay for her victim’s funeral. Terms of her probation included not breaking any federal or state laws. Second-degree murder carries a sentence of probation or between four to 30 years in prison. She had initially been charged with first-degree murder.

In April 2013, Loyola was charged with driving while her license was revoked. The Kane County probation office on June 27 issued a notice of violation, based on that.

Court records also indicate that as of July 2, she had not reported any community service hours to the court services office. She was supposed to complete that within six months of her sentencing.

Her next court date is Tuesday. Bail was set at $100,000.
