Man killed in S. Elgin Route 31 crash

A 44-year-old man is dead after a car struck a tree late Friday afternoon in South Elgin, officials said.

Kane County Coroner Rob Russell confirmed that the crash near the intersection of Route 31 and Woodridge Circle resulted in the fatality.

Russell said the victim’s identity would be released after next of kin have been notified.

Officials from the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District said it took 90 minutes to extricate the victim due to the extent of damage.

It didn’t appear any other vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place about 3:45 p.m. The circumstances of the accident weren’t immediately known.

Route 31 remained shut down late Friday afternoon as authorities cleaned up from the wreck. Traffic was being redirected near the scene of the crash.
