6-year-old boy shot on Chicago's West Side

CHICAGO — Chicago police say a 6-year-old boy was shot and wounded while riding in a car with his mother on the city's West Side.

Police spokesman Jose Estrada says the boy was hit in the shoulder and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. He had no information on the boy's condition.

Officers do not believe the boy or his mother were the intended targets of the shooting, which took place in the West Garfield Park neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

No one was in custody Saturday morning.
