Schaumburg Golf Club’s junior golf program is swinging!

A new set of golfers are taking the tee this summer at Schaumburg Park District.

Schaumburg Golf Club, 401 N. Roselle Road, offers a junior golf program for children ages 5 to 12 to learn the fundamentals of golf and help improve their golf game.

Each program session offers three weekly classes that focus on a different topic. Topics include an introduction to golf, short game and full swing. Participants are able to register for one topic or all three, depending on what they are interested in learning or improving.

“The junior program is an introduction to golf that shows kids the basic fundamentals to get them ready to play on an actual course,” said Jon Parsons, head golf pro at Schaumburg Golf Club. “We encourage a fun environment so youth players enjoy the game.”

The junior golf program is a part of the Schaumburg Golf Club Academy. With classes of 10 to 12 participants and under the direction of the Golf Club’s pros, there is a lot of individualized attention given to each participant.

A goal of the program is to make the game enjoyable for parents and children so they can play together.

“I wanted to learn how to golf because in the business world you may attend golf outings and it’s better to learn how to golf now instead of later,” said Catherine Trinka, an 11-year-old participant.

Another goal is to improve confidence in the game and abilities by focusing on specific parts of play during each session. Pros breakdown each aspect of the game and personalize each lesson to the participants’ strengths and weaknesses.

“I didn’t know too much about golf before, but now I know how to use an iron, stand, hit the ball and use the tee,” said Alex Khan, a 10-year-old junior golfer.

The junior golf program will hold one more session of three topics beginning Aug. 5. Registration is available at www.schaumburggolf.com.
