Augustfest opens Thursday in Des Plaines

St. Zachary Church in Des Plaines is holding Augustfest Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 8-11.

The festival includes carnival rides, entertainment by well-known festival bands, children’s games, bingo, casino games, cash raffle, and food and drinks.

The festival on the grounds of St. Zachary Church, two blocks east of Elmhurst Road at 67 W. Algonquin Road, will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with an outdoor Masss at 11:30 a.m. the last day.

Admission is free from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, $3 at all other times and free for kids younger than 12. Parking and entertainment are free except for the basic admission charge.

Passes for unlimited carnival rides throughout Augustfest are $50 and are available Thursday evening. For $20, daily passes for unlimited rides are available from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Casino games include poker, roulette, blackjack, big wheel, over and under. All proceeds benefit St. Zachary Church. Guests must be 18 or older to play.

Raffle tickets are $5 or six for $25, with a first prize of $5,000, a second prize of $1,000 and a third prize of $500.
