NEW YORK — Sylvia Fowles of the Chicago Sky and Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in July.

She averaged 17.2 points and 10.8 rebounds, while her .660 field goal percentage and 2.2 bpg led the WNBA. Fowles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on July 14.

Parker’s 19.8 ppg and 9.0 rpg in July led Los Angeles (12-6) to a 7-2 record for the month after a 5-4 start to the season. The Naperville native’s 178 total points were also a conference best, while her 12 blocks led the league. Parker scored at least 20 points in six of her team’s nine games and averaged 23.2 points over two weeks (five games) to earn back-to-back Western Conference Player of the Week awards.
