Mount Prospect man gets probation in domestic attack

A 34-year-old Mount Prospect man pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic battery earlier this month and was sentenced to jail time and 24 months’ probation, Cook County court records show.

The defendant, Joseph L. Lopez Jr., of the 1400 block of Brownstone, had been held on $250,000 bail. The judge also ordered Lopez to serve 180 days in jail and pay $869 in fines, court records show.

Lopez threatened, choked and beat the victim Jan. 22 in a car in a parking lot in an unincorporated area near Palatine after she told him she wanted to end their relationship, according to published reports.

Cook County sheriff’s police obtained an arrest warrant for Lopez, who had threatened to kill himself and shoot police officers who approached him, authorities said. They arrested him at his apartment on Jan. 25.
