New Shoe Carnival opens on Randall Road in S. Elgin

A new Show Carnival store is open for business along the Randall Road corridor.

The store opened July 27 at the Shops at South Elgin, 354 Randall Road.

It is one of two Shoe Carnival stores that opened on that same day in the Chicago area. The other store opened in Burbank.

Shoe Carnival already had a store along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin. It is one of 364 Shoe Carnival stores throughout 32 states in the United States and throughout Puerto Rico.

The store sells a variety of famous brands — including Nike, Converse, New Balance and more — at value pricing.

“We are excited to be opening a new store location bringing our customers a new spacious and inviting Shoe Carnival shopping experience,” said Todd Beurman, Shoe Carnival's senior vice president of marketing.

“At Shoe Carnival, we strive to give our customers a family-friendly shopping experience with great deals on name brand shoes for the whole family.”

Toy shop closed: The popular toy store Learning Express closed this month in Algonquin.

The Randall Road store, which focused on educational and unique toys, held several inventory reduction sales on its remaining toys, books, stuffed animals, scooters and accessories for as much as 60 percent off. The store even sold off its shelving units and other items.

The store was often the only local place people could find much-desired toys and other items, including the currently popular Rainbow Loom, Calico Critters and Elf on the Shelf outfits and accessories.

Anything that didn't sell was transferred to Learning Express' Geneva store, also located along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva Commons.

That store, 610 Commons Drive, will remain open and is frequently getting in supplies for the Rainbow Loom.

Another closing: Applebee's Restaurant along the Randall Road corridor in Lake in the Hills is closed.

It joined several other Applebee's Restaurants in closing, including the one in Geneva at 1690 S. Randall Road that closed earlier this summer.

Applebee's announced earlier this year that it would close several restaurants in Illinois as its area franchise holder went bankrupt.

The fate of the Lake in the Hills store was unknown originally.

New business: Just across Randall Road from the former Applebee's restaurant location, a new business is coming to the corridor in Lake in the Hills.

Pet Supplies Plus is opening soon in the strip mall at the northwest corner of Randall and Algonquin roads, 132 N. Randall Road.

Pet Supplies Plus is a supermarket-style pet supplies store, with food, treats, bones, accessories and more for the pets in your life.

The store will carry natural pet foods and offer services to help you take care of your pets, whether they are furry dogs or amphibians.
